Dr Emma Sedgwick
Emma’s success as a coach is rooted in the skills she developed as a doctor specialising in psychiatry: actively listening to clients, earning their trust and sensitively exploring the issues they raise in a safe, confidential environment.
After leaving clinical practice in 1999, Emma worked at the Medical Defence Union, advising doctors facing ethical and legal dilemmas and assisting others who were the subject of a complaint or disciplinary investigation. She realised that many concerns could have been addressed earlier if the doctor had been given structured opportunities to reflect on their professional skills. This inspired her to train as a coach.
Since 2006, she has been a full-time coach within healthcare and business sectors and become familiar with the challenges of working within highly complex organisations. Clients have included high achievers with leadership potential, professionals facing a change in their career and those with poor communication skills. She has also coached newly created teams so members can cooperate effectively on projects and helped resolve conflict within dysfunctional departments.
Emma is accredited by the Association for Professional Executive Coaching and Supervision (APECS), and abides by its ethical standards. Among her qualifications, she has a diploma in Coaching and Behavioural Change from Henley Business School. She also has a Certificate in Coaching Supervision and supervises individual coaches and groups.
